To the drinking bowlsThe story of DjuDju
DjuDju priests and priestesses were spiritual and practical healers. Their medicine was usually made in liquid form – but drinks were also brewed for celebrations, such as weddings or the birth of a child. Here lies the origin of DjuDju fruit beers.
DjuDju is made according to ancient recipes in large clay pots and traditionally served to guests in calabash bowls. The mostly secret recipes are passed on by the healer to their student, who guards them closely.
Encouraged by the enthusiastic response of visitors to Ghana, the Tagoe family decided to offer the fruit beer based on their secret recipe together with an international brewery outside of Ghana as well. After successful beginnings in London and Berlin with DjuDju Banana and Passion Fruit, more varieties are now following.
